15 month appt - Jan 11, 2012

It's been a LONG time since i've posted anything -- work and life just keeps getting in the way! but, i figure I should at least post her 15 month dr appt results, since this blog is serving as a baby book of sorts!

since haley's 15 month b-day fell on Dec 23, we had her appt a few weeks late. She went in on Jan 11, and here are her stats:

33 inches long (95th percentile)

24 lbs 4 oz (70th percentile)

She checked out well in all areas. Here appt was 1 week after getting her ear tubes and the dr said they looked good.

She was not too happy about the 3 shots she got, but survived in the end.

At this point in her life, she is VERY active - nearly running everywhere, trying to talk all the time, but only making about 5-10 words out. She tries to repeat words we say but can't get some of her sounds out yet.

she knows the sounds of about 15 animals and can point to the pics of animals too.

she knows many many body parts - ears, eyes, nose, cheek, chin, lips, elbow, hair, head, hands, fingers, toes, feet, and her favorite of all, belly button.

we have eliminated all passie usage except for naps at home and night time sleeping. she was getting it in the car too, but we just weened her off of that about 2 weeks ago.

she will be moving rooms at daycare on jan 23, so hopefully will adjust ok. she's been spending ~1 hr a day in the new room this past week. the main changes in this room (besides new toys & teachers) is sleeping on a mat (vs. a cot) and a 'no fingers' rule when eating. so, she'll have to really learn to use that spoon soon!

she was doing great with her spoon & fork usage until we went home for christmas...since then she wants US to feed her, else she used her hands!!

she is a BIG eater with a very healthy appetite. lately she has gotten a little picky with the foods she wants but will usually at least taste the food (then spit it out if she does not like/want it).

haley has gotten very attached to stuffed animals lately - mainly SNOOPY dog from aunt kerrie & uncle russell & a brown bear from trey & i ....she wants to take them everywhere.  she even  holds snoopy while she bounces on her horse, and had him in her high chair during breakfast a few times!

Here are some pics from our trip to TX over Christmas.  There are a ton of great ones, but I can't post them all !

ear tube surgery - Jan 6, 2012

well, after 7 ear infections between June 20-end of December, we took the plunge to get haley ear tubes.  she was just constantly sick (and miserable) and on antibiotics and we were miserable too (not sleeping and missing work).  so, she had the surgery jan 6.  the doc said he removed fluid from both ears so the next infection was inevitable.

with the exception of the HOUR of nonstop screaming after waking up, she did great.  i was warned that she would be inconsolable when waking up but did not expect for it to last that long.  but, by the end of the day she was back to normal, and a very happy baby the following days.

she has her 2 wk check up with the ENT tomorrow, so hopefully everything will still look good.
here's an out of focus picture of us before i put the mask on her to make her fall asleep.

halloween parade - little ladybug

on friday, the daycare held a halloween parade.  they dressed all the kids up in costumes and walked around the building 3 times, then all gathered togeter in the back and the older ones sang songs.  haley was excited to see us, and to our surprise, she went back with the teachers after seeing us to continue in the parade.  it was sooo adorable. haley's wings didn't stick very well with the velcro, so they were never really open. and i think they affected her balance because she kept falling over (could have been the uneven surface too!)

here are some pics of haley & her class mates  + some of the older kids.

this is the outside of the daycare. her room is in the left building

@13 months old

haley continues to grow and try new things!  she is now 13 months old and since my last update here's what's new:

she has really gotten into reading.  she will get a book and hand it to me or trey, then turn around and scoot her little bootie on our lap.  it's so cute!  but, sometimes we can only get to the first page before she gets up again and get another book.   we have some slide out word cards, which she loves to show us.

she knows where her nose, eyes, teeth, tongue, head, and toes are.  she can relate objects with words and seems to understand what we say for the most part.  she knows 'arms up', 'sit down', 'put it back', etc.

she loves putting lids on things - opening and closing things

she want to eat everything -- especially everything that her daddy eats (including sucking on jerky!!)  she's like a little dog when she sees someone with food!

trey taught her to stick her tongue in and out like a lizard, and i taught her to put some sound to it.  i caught it on video, so you can check it out below.

she has not talked yet, but she says 'ha' when she waves, so we think she's associating hi with waving.
she can shake her head no for communication, but not yes so far!

we started doing a 'bye bye passie' ritual.  after she gets up from bed, she usually grabs as many passies as she can to take with her for the diaper change.  when we finish changing the diaper, we go back to the crib, and she will drop the passies in the crib and wave goodbye.  she even sort of says 'bye bye'

ever since aunt kerrie showed her how to tumble over, she has loved doing it. she will stick her head on the ground, butt up until we flip her over.   i got a short video clip of it as well.  one time, she did it 5 times in a row!

on the bumps and bruises side, she got bit on her back a few weeks ago at daycare, which left a bruise the size of a dime.  she fell at our house last weekend and hit a portable heater right above her ear which left a bruise, and also fell down in the store today and cut her lip a little bit.  luckily they had a snack bar so we got her to suck on some ice in a wash rag.  but, she was fine a few minutes later and i don't see a mark.

we went to the capitol for some 1 year pics, went to a farm to get a pumpkin a few weeks ago, and the daycare held a halloween parade on friday.  i will put those pics on separate blog entries.

thanks for the birthday money!

Thanks to everyone for Haley's birthday presents!  Besides the items shown on her birthday blog entry, she got some cold hard cash from Grandma & Pepaw, Great Aunt Susan, Aunt Loie,  Uncle Rodney & Tyler, and Deanna, Ronnie, Valori, and Evan Wilson.  We took her to toys r us today and she was in heaven!  She could not touch enough things, and forget about us trying to hold her while we were walking around!

So, we got a few things with part of the money today and will get some other things with the rest of it in the near future.  We got:  a leap frog toy to teach her letters and sounds, a turtle with holes in the shell to put in various shapes (square, circle, heart, star, etc) and a blow up red bouncing hourse, similar to Tyler's Rody.

So, thanks again for the loot!  She will have fun playing with her new toys & future toys from the money!

1 year dr appt (Sept 29)

Haley had her 1 year checkup today.  She was not too happy a camper because the ladies at daycare had to wake her up from her nap when I picked her up.  But we had some milk & goldfish and that seemed to make things a little better.

Dr. Baugh was very pleased with her stats and her checkup.
  • She is 32 inches long, which was off the charts for 12 months old - essentially equal to the height of an 18 month old, he said.
  • She is 21 lbs 12 oz, which is in the 60th percentile
  • Her head is 18.5 inches circumference, which is 90th percentile.

He said that her height to weight proportion is very healthy and where they like it to be.
She has had a runny nose & cough all week and did have a fever yesterday. Unfortunately, Dr. Baugh found an ear infection, so we will hold off on her next round of vaccines until 2-3 weeks from now, when she goes back for her ear follow-up.  But they did prick her finger for an anemia test.  We started a once-per-day anitbiotic this evening for the ear infection, and are really hoping it does not mess her tummy & bootie up too bad.

She slept for 2 hrs today at daycare and would have likely slept longer had I not come to get her.  So, I was very happy to see that.  She seems to be adjusting OK to all the new changes at daycare:
  • No more morning nap
  • Moved from crib to cot
  • No more passie at naptime
  • No more bottles - sippy cup only
  • No more warm milk - cold
  • Since we got the OK from Dr Baugh today she will start on whole milk monday.
  • Moved to the older kid menu (still tiny pieces tho)
  • No more breakfast at daycare - has to eat at home, then gets a snack at 9:00
  • Apple juice with a snack
That's about it for now....hopefully she will get to feeling better soon !
